Way back in 2019 several residents were concerned about the balancing pond next to the footpath between Post Office Lane and Fortunes Field. This provides overflow drainage for Pitchens End but had suffered from a lack of maintenance and repair for many years, resulting in a potentially dangerous place, especially for children.
Cllr. Jim Gunter tried to find out who owned it. After many calls to Thames Water they finally agreed it was their responsibility and that urgent action was needed.
Later in 2022, Cllr. Candace Gainsford took on the task of trying to get Thames Water to do the repair work and finally got them to commit at the end of 2022.
In May 2023, Thames Water finally completed the work, repairing the wall and fencing, and putting up a clear sign.
